Homemade coffee syrups

I adore Starbucks Mocha. But at the moment being unemployed and therefore skint I cannot justify the cost,for what is essentially hot water, a bit of chocolate and some milk. I have tried {and enjoyed} the powdered mocha flavoured sachets you can get and then add to warm milk, but it isn't the same. It lacks that kick and taste of real coffee.

So today I made some homemade chocolate syrup and vanilla syrup that I can add to my filter coffee to create my "at home Starbucks experience".

Chocolate Syrup

1 cup of sugar
1 cup of water
1 cup of cocoa powder {although I actually used Cadbury hot chocolate}
Pinch of salt
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

Mix the sugar and hot chocolate in a pan until the lumps are gone
Add the water
Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally
Once boiling, cook until thickened {a few minutes}
Add vanilla extract and stir
Remove from heat to cool
Decant into an air tight container

Vanilla

1 cup of sugar
1 cup of water
Vanilla extract to your taste

Add water and sugar and cook over low heat until the sugar has completely dissolved
Add the vanilla extract and stir in
Cook on low heat for a couple of minutes, stirring
Remove from heat to cool
Decant to an air tight container

Simples!
